In the early 1930s, Cliff Arbuckle moved to Indiana from Paris, Illinois. He took a job working at the Ayres Estate as Assistant Gardener and Groundskeeper, beginning the Arbuckle landscaping tradition.
Cliff met his wife Thelma at the L.S. Ayres store, where she worked at the makeup counter. They married in 1935. He started his own landscaping business a few years later, which they ran out of their home on the eastside of Indianapolis. Over the years, their three sons worked for the business. Arbuckle & Sons Nursery and Landscape Company began when their oldest son, Jim Arbuckle, branched off and started his own business in 1979. The business has served central Indiana’s landscaping needs for both residential and commercial properties ever since.
Jim Arbuckle retired in 2008. He still enjoys his time outside in well-landscaped scenery–in the form of the many golf courses in the area. His youngest son, John, worked for the business regularly since he was a teenager. John Arbuckle took over the business as Arbuckle & Sons Landscaping with the help of his wife, Kitrina, and their two sons, John Seamus and Alexander, when Jim retired. His sons are now learning the family trade just as he and Jim did–by working alongside their father.
The Arbuckle family is proud to continue the landscaping tradition. As long-time residents of Historic Irvington, they continue to serve the Indianapolis and Central Indiana areas. They strive to offer quality and personalized service to their customers using the knowledge of four generations, while maintaining environmentally sound practices.
